Overview
“The stereotypical thing is that people who dress in Polo shirts and khaki pants are scholars whereas people who wear Nike pants and Nike shirts are athletes,” Kai Pardue (12) said. Appearance, style and presentation are universal concepts that affect the way people perceive themselves and others perceive them. “People who wear formal clothes describe themselves as more competent and ra...
Client meet
Sarah Myers is the editor-in-chief of all three EHS-hub staffs: the EHS-hub, EHS-hub Broadcast News and the Eurekana yearbook. I talked to Sarah about her goals for this project as well as the way that she dresses. “I like to be very comfortable. I love comfortable clothes, and I always take that into account,” Sarah said. “I like neutral colors with some pops of color.” We ...
How to thrift
Reasons to thrift: save money. style: you can find lots of new or gently-used items from retail stores, vintage items or unique pieces that other people won’t have. It’s good for the world. Thrifting saves clothing from landfills: 26 billion pounds of clothing and textiles go into landfills each year. I also bought a pair of sunglasses for $1. I originally bought a pair of jeans and a skirt for her that were each $8, but neither of them fit her comfortably, so I didn’t use them in our photo shoot. Siz...
Reflection
This project was a lot more frustrating than I had originally anticipated. It is easy to find a vision but much more difficult to carry it out, especially when restricted to a small budget. Sizing is a big deal when thrifting since clothing sizes aren’t universal and gently-used clothes can be stretched or shrunk a bit. Thrifting is a great option for saving money, but it is hard to do it f...
