EHS is known for its student spirit and long standing traditions, with the Catpound ranked sixth in the state according to The Student Section Report. While Friday night football games are well attended events, many students participate in other traditions.
Jack Albert, 12, enjoys spirit weeks. He has participated in them throughout all four years of high school because it creates a sense of community in the school.
“My favorite tradition is Homecoming spirit week,” Albert said. “Everybody’s involvement in that is really special and people get out there and embarrass themselves a little bit. It’s nice to get around and you can laugh at people in the hallway and they can laugh at you.”
Beside prom, Homecoming is another well attended school dance, and features a week of events and traditions.
“My favorite tradition is Homecoming, like a football game,” Emerson Hicks, 12, said. “Because the energy is always there and it’s really fun to dress up in purple and gold to represent the school.”
Aiden Cameron, 12, enjoys sharing school spirit amongst his friends. Pep-rallies are a fun way to get students excited for upcoming events or breaks. Many students, teachers and staff participate in the pep-rally to make it a memorable experience.
“The pep-rallies are really fun because you get to hang out with your friends, watch fun games and sing songs,” Cameron said. “It’s just really fun, you don’t have to be in class.”
Mahela Brunworth, 12, enjoys hanging out with the girls in her grade, particularly Senior Women Night, a fun and exciting tradition where senior girls get together, take pictures and hang out, a way for everyone to connect before graduating high school.
“My favorite is definitely senior women night,” Brunworth said. “It’s just a lot of fun and just being able to go out and have fun with everyone.”
Mitchell Barth, 12, enjoys school dances, specifically prom. He is a fan of the time shared with friends and most importantly the energy at dances.
“My favorite tradition would be prom,” Barth said. “Just because Homecoming is cool and everything, but the fact that you can sit down at a table with ten people and just have a great time together and dance and there’s dinner and dessert and it’s a really nice place.”
