Important Information about EHS Journalism

EHS Journalism centers around three student publications- The Bugle (News Production), EBN (Digital Media Production) and the Eurekana (Yearbook Production). All three publications contribute to EHS Hub, at www.ehshub.org and on social media channels (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook). Our publications staff loves welcoming new students and showing new staff members what it’s all about and what they really do.

Publications classes are structured differently than typical course offerings. Students have the opportunity to take on leadership positions, and become experts in their chosen areas of concentration and organizational management. Staff members usually work in small teams to publish, whether it’s a monthly broadcast for EBN, the latest issue of The Bugle or an assigned spread of the Eurekana. Assignments focus on publishing content with high journalistic ethics and standards, and often will look like individual assignments broken in to smaller pieces. At any given time, students in class may be interviewing, editing video, designing layout templates, planning color palettes, writing copy or uploading and editing photos.

Staff members generally enjoy developing relationships that often extend beyond the classroom. Student publications members also have opportunities to expand their learning opportunities by attending workshops, networking with student journalists from around the country and submitting their work for contests and awards. As an added bonus, student publications experience looks great on college applications and resumes.

To get started, check out the prerequisite courses: Journalism Writing & Reporting and Visual Journalism. Or, schedule an Ac Lab time to come in and tour the lab and studio. We look forward to showing you what EHS Journalism can offer you!
