With the school year coming to an end, students are looking for jobs to keep them busy during the summer. Some students struggle to find a job during the summer due to the age they are, or due to overstaffed jobs. Some students are seeking their first job. There are many places open for summer hiring such as ProPool, Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed, Six Flags, Panera, and more. Rockwood School District is offering high school students to work for a variety of Rockwood’s supported businesses. Ella Vuichard (12) is a supervisor for the swim school at Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed and gives information about what the summer job entails.
“It’s a very entertaining job. You get to work with a lot of kids, building connections and watching them grow is fun. I also love working with other people my age” Vuichard says. Not only is there aquatics, but there are different roles you can take at Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed.
“Adventure Club and other Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed programs are awesome as well,” Vuichard states. Other summer job opportunities are floating around, such as Culvers, nursing homes, and more. Jennifer Fine (Staff) was a part of the Student Job Fair held at both Ac labs in early April, alongside Mike Hunt (Staff). At the fair, there were merch, tickets for raffles, and food coupons. Fine explains all the jobs they’re offering.
“Some of the types of jobs offered are in fast food (serving), Six Flags has positions for students to work the rides, in the stores and food service, Passiglia Nursery has sales positions, there are several lifeguard positions open, summer camp counselor positions, retail positions, wait staff/hostess positions and more,” Fine says. Not only do they just offer jobs, but they also offer internships for students curious about what career path they want to take. Mike Hunt (Staff) explains the different internships offered on the Student Job Fair flier.
“Many businesses will offer internship opportunities. At the job fair there were the St. Louis County Police, Western Wire Products, and Mercy,” Hunt indicated. Hunt also adds that there was an abundance of students who attended the Student Job Fair, looking for jobs to consider.
“We had over 150+ students attend the job fair. Many of them filled out applications,” stated Hunt. In closing, there are a variety of summer jobs to choose from when looking for something to do over the summer. Keeping busy and being
productive with a steady job over the summertime is a useful way to prepare yourself for your future.
