EHS recognizes Kotraba as TOY
The EHS Teacher of the Year Committee announced Mandy Kotraba, Science, as EHS 2020 Teacher of the Year, Feb. 18.
Students, staff and administrators gathered in the Large Theater to hear the announcement during the third Flex period.
Kotraba was accompanied by her mother, sister and her sister-in-law to help her celebrate.
“It’s amazing,” Kotraba said. “You always hope you’re recognized for your hardwork and it came true this year. That’s exciting.”
Leading up to the announcement, members of the TOY committee spend hours reading submissions and carefully selecting a teacher.
The committee is compiled of about 20 teachers, counselors and librarians.
In December, an email with a Google Form was sent to students asking them to nominate a teacher of their choice for TOY.
The committee received about 400 nominations for over 100 teachers, counselors and librarians.
“The other nominees are amazing teachers,” Kotraba said. “They are names that you hear kids talking about in positive ways.”
The committee chose three finalists: Kotraba, Lauren Schoellhorn, Social studies, and Elizabeth Schoessel, social studies.
Teachers then voted Kotraba to be honored as the 2020 TOY.
Kotraba has taught at EHS since 2012 and currently teaches AP Environmental and Environmental science.
