St. Louis County Executive Sam Page and St. Louis City Mayor Lyda Krewson both ordered a mandatory county-wide and city-wide shelter-in-place in an attempt to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, March 21. 

The order will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 23 and stand for a 30-day period, terminating Wednesday, April 22, at 11:59 p.m. 

After the orders expire, they will be reevaluated.

The orders comes exactly one day after the state of Illinois ordered a statewide shelter-in-place. 

Under the shelter-in-place, residents may continue to shop at grocery stores, go to pharmacies, visit a doctor or other essential activities. Residents can enjoy taking walks, exercising and picking up carry-out from restaurants. 

Essential workers such as first responders, healthcare workers and construction employees may continue to commute to and attend work. 

Violating the shelter-in-place is a misdemeanor offense punishable by either fine or imprisonment.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson banned all social gatherings of more than 10 people, March 21, until at least Monday, April 6. 

Both the shelter-in-place and Parson’s ban outlast Rockwood School District’s initial statement of closing schools through Friday, April 3. Rockwood has yet to release any further information on the closure. 

As of Saturday night, the state of Missouri has 90 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with three deaths reported.
