April 11 was also the 11thgame of the season for the Varsity Baseball team. They faced off with the Northwest Lions and improved to an 8-3 record with a 2-0 win.
Michael Lydon-Lorson, starting pitcher, controlled the game from the beginning by pitching to the minimum amount of batters: three per inning through four innings.
Lydon-Lorson prepared for the cold day by just doing what he normally does.
“ I play long toss before the game and then get in a nice good bullpen before the game,” Lydon-Lorson said.
In the top of the fourth Lydon-Lorson allowed the first double of the game for the Lions with no outs. The next batter hit a sinking line drive into shallow center field. Connor Pahl, center field, tracked it down, making a diving catch and then throwing to second and doubling up the runner at second, erasing the leadoff double.
“The team has a lot of chemistry,” Nick Hoeflinger, middle infield, said. “We’re a really good team at picking each other up.”
There was no better example of the team picking each other up than the play by Pahl in the top of the fourth inning.
An RBI single by Michael Allman, first base, gave the Wildcats their first run in the bottom of third. The game stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Sean Murley, short stop, caught a pitch just right and knocked the ball well over the wall in left field.
Lydon-Lorson called the defense flawless.
“I thought pitching and defense was excellent,” Mr. James Daffron, head coach, said. “That’s what won the game.”
Lydon-Lorson threw a complete-game shutout, striking out two and allowing just one walk.
