This Friday, Oct. 11, the six and zero EHS Wildcats take on the six and zero Lafayette Lancers, in one of the most anticipated games in the entire state of Missouri this year.
This game has the Battle of 109 on the line as well as postseason implications. With both teams sharing Class Five, District Two this year, the winner of this game will likely get the first round bye for playoffs.
LHS is led by a passing attack featuring Northwestern commit Robby Preckel, who leads the team with 553 receiving yards, which is fourth in the greater St. Louis area, along with 20.5 yards per reception. Quarterback Jack Behl is also highly ranked in the local area, with 1362 passing yards, and 17 touchdown passes to only four interceptions.
Although Offensive Coordinator Tyler Wasson doesn’t coach defense, he still stressed the importance of limiting the explosive plays.
“The kid (Preckel) is going to compete, he competes at a high level, so we’ve got to match that and have a plan for him,” Wasson said.
Eureka’s defense however, is just as stellar, with on average only giving up 41.8 rushing yards per game and 101.6 passing, while averaging a turnover a game.
On offense, Eureka features a rushing attack that has already eclipsed 1000 yards, with junior Trevor Codak leading the pack with 742 rushing yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 7.1 yards per carry.
Eureka also features arguably the best offensive line in the state, featuring two Division One commits, Jack Lange (Mizzou) and Stephen Meitz (Missouri State). With speculation that this game could be the most attended in Lafayette history, many would think this would provide extra pressure for the Wildcats, but Wasson feels otherwise.
“Playing away games, they’re fun, they’re exciting. It’s why, you know, you want to play high school football in these environments. I think our kids will handle that part really fine. Again, it just adds to the fun part of this Battle of 109 stuff, it’s really cool,” Wasson said.
So if you want to see a battle on Friday Night, come to Lafayette High School by 7:00 P.M., show your school spirit, and watch what has potential to be the game of the year in the entire state of Missouri.
