Starting on September 20th at Eureka, those who participate in the orchestra or band have been given the option to join a newly formed symphony club. There had been symphonic classes in the past, but when Eureka reverted to the block schedules, this made it hard to continue and the classes were effectively ended.
The club is conducted by orchestra teacher Mary White, and will start playing on September 20th. White is very excited for the club after their first informational meeting on September 11. 58 people attended with White expecting up to around 70 to start in the club.”It’s a really valuable opportunity for all music students to participate in,” White said.
The plan is to meet for the first Ac-Lab block for the first Ac-Lab of the week. Although this is mostly done during school time, there will be times where rehearsals will be necessary after school due to the fact that the club plans on doing performances. “My hope is one of our Ac-Lab sessions we can get a stage and invite people to watch, ” White said.
As of right now, the club is only supposed to last in the first semester with the option of lasting longer, with second semester being much more busy for music students. “We’re trying to focus on first semester because second semester we have Solo Ensemble Festival and Large Group Festival,” White said.
The symphony club looks to be a fun way for music students at Eureka to become more involved.
