Opinions: Hindsight: Sexist comments

I guess a lamp is one of the luxuries only us women get to enjoy

I’d like to start off by saying that even though this teacher ticked me off with his comment he is still a great teacher and I currently have an “A” in his class. I just wanted to tell you about his hilarious comment.

Last Friday I was sitting in class when my teacher (who is male and shall remain anonymous) began to complain that his classroom was too dark.

So a student (who is female) suggested that he buy a lamp.

His response: “I’m not a woman.”

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

I’m sorry, I was not aware that a lamp was a feminine object; I thought it was a source of light to help us see.

Not only was my teacher’s comment ignorant and offensive, but it also made him look completely stupid. If he was complaining about the lack of light in his classroom, then a suggestion to buy a lamp was totally practical, right?

Wrong. Apparently, lamps are for women.

I cannot stand sexist comments/jokes like my teacher’s. And it doesn’t stop there. I hear tons of these jokes being made by the guys in our school, as well.

“Yeah, this person who has the parking spot next to mine can’t park worth the crap,” Guy 1 says.

“Let’s be honest, it’s probably a woman,” Guy 2 says.

Really.

Just to be clear… I’m not a huge feminist or anything. It’s the fact that men feel the need to make fun of women to show how much of a higher power they have that angers me off.

The fact that my teacher said that a freaking lamp was for a woman just baffles me beyond belief.

I guess he’ll continue teaching in the dark, you know, because a source of light is too feminine. He’s way to manly to purchase a lamp. Who in their right mind would buy such a girly object?

Oh, that’s right, people who actually want to see and aren’t blinded by their testosterone.

I don’t want to hear this crap. I don’t want to hear anymore women driver jokes. I don’t want to hear how women can’t do this or that because men do it better.

No.

It needs to stop.

I am done with the sexist comments.
