Regan Peterson, Managing Editor

This is Peterson’s seventh semester on staff where she serves as the Managing Editor for both the Eurekana Yearbook and EHS-hub. Peterson enjoys sleeping, watching Netflix and spending time with friends and family. One word to describe her; passionate. A conversation she wants to have with the world, “I would want everyone to stop and realize we are equals. One human life means no more or no less than another.” Peterson’s dream job is undecided but she would enjoy something that has to do with helping kids, either in speech pathology or therapy. On top of his opponent, Benjamin Stubblefield, 120 lbs, wrestles Parkway South, Jan. 9. "I enjoy wrestling because I can get out there and have some fun. Everyone says it's all violence, but it's more of a fun way to get out energy. I knew I was going to beat that kid. He's a good freshman, but he was lacking the varsity aspect of it." Wildcats won 60-21.

Words on her hand, Kayla Hill (10) models for a photography class, March 6. “I’m usually a model. A lot of times, they’re really interesting ideas people come up with. They’re really powerful. I really enjoy being able to work with the people who are taking the photos and get them what they want,” Hill said. “My best friend is in Photo 2 and she wanted me to be a model for an abuse photo. She’s used me ever since then. It sends out a message, but it scares a lot of people. People know exactly what they want me to do, so they have me move in a specific way and do exactly what they want and it turns out exactly how they think it will.”

This is so much bigger than what I usually play,” Vogel said. “There is a lot more to work with and play with in this role. It is so much fun. I love being in theatre. The first five minutes of the production are complete nerves. But then muscle memory and adrenaline kick in and you're like, ‘Oh my god! I’m performing.’ You look around at the cast and you see they love it as much as you. It’s amazing. Cinderella’s whole character arc is about a girl who is in a bad situation, and she is using her imagination to get through it. She is trying to bring herself joy through all these situations she is imagining. Doing theatre is like that for me. I get to imagine myself as all these people.” Cinderella is playing Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

This is the first time Eureka hockey has ever won any championship. “It was magical to win,” Markovitz said. “We have been to many competitions, but we typically lose because those are difficult. We knew we could win and then we just ran with that. Our season wasn’t great. We eventually just lost all our shame and threw everything into winning.” The Wildcats won, 6 to 1.

Playing McCluer North was tough,” Edwards said. “We have to keep them in front of us at all times so we know what they are doing. They are a pretty good team. A lot of their guys are fast and can get rebounds quick. We had to watch them carefully. I enjoy how in basketball I can be myself on the court. I fell in love with the game in middle school and it was always something I loved to do.” The Wildcats lost, 46 to 55.

Charging toward the net, Jhalon Asher-Sanders, point guard, tries to get a shot in during the boys varsity basketball game against Parkway South, Feb. 1. “I contributed to the team by moving the ball down the court and scoring at every opportunity,” Asher-Sanders said. “Some challenges of being a point guard is reading the defense. You don’t know what the defense is doing and because of that, your path to the net can be a challenge. We didn’t follow our plays through. That is something we always struggle with. We always try to improve.” The Wildcats won, 50 to 37.

Up by 12, Matthew Edwards, wing, looks for a teammate to pass to during the boys varsity basketball game at Parkway South, Jan. 18. “During the first half we played decent, but during the second half, we really picked it up,” Edwards said. “We outplayed them. I typically play every position, but this game I focused on wing. I like playing wing because I am most comfortable there. I can be in the flow of the game. I started playing basketball in the fourth grade for fun, but in middle school I became for serious about it. I continue to play because I am not that good at any other sport. I love watching basketball and playing the game.” The Wildcats won, 59 to 45.

There were situations where we made mistakes, but we also thrived in others. To do better, we can work harder. We need to develop that fight factor. Some people freeze up when we get to the match, but they just need to fight.”

Arms spread wide, Claire Dunn swam the 100m fly during the girls swim and dive meet at Marquette, Jan. 7. “I’ve been swimming for six years. I did competitive swim and now I do high school. It’s really fun,” Dunn said. “I really love hanging out with my friends and the social end. I meet new friends and people I wasn’t close with in the past, I’ve gotten a lot closer with. It’s just fun to get together as a team. I like all of the fun we have together. Whether it’s in the pool or out of the pool, we just have fun and make things fun, even if it’s serious. It was my first time swimming the 100m fly this year and it was good.” The Wildcats lost.

They can do things that we can’t,” Fischer said. “I took Woods all through middle school. It is a fun class to do. It is interesting being able to use your hands to make something of your own.
