Katelyn Muszalski, Sports and Ads manager

This is Muszalski’s second semester on staff where she serves as sports and ads manager for the EHS-hub and Eurekana Yearbook. She is the girls basketball manager, is involved in Student Council and E2Y2 at Eureka. She enjoys hanging out with friends and playing with her dog. One word to describe her; Diligent. A conversation she wants to have with the world, “I would talk to the world about everyone being nicer to one another.” Muszalski’s dream job would be to be an understanding teacher. Black History Month underway, Hawa Muhando (11) joins Women Empowering Women to decorate naomi warren’s office door with an African American face, Feb. 6. “I enjoy Women Empowering Women because we make an impact on each other,” Muhando said. “It feels good to know that someone listens to you and to know you aren’t alone. We saw these ideas of the door decorating on social media and decided to do it, too. Ever since I was a little kid in elementary school, Black History Month hasn’t been celebrated. We wanted to celebrate it with something everyone will see.”

Legs up for a warm-up, Zayaunna Brady (12) prepares to do sprints for Arctic Cats. Artic Cats is an off-season warm-up team for the track team. “Arctic Cats is an optional thing that we do every year to prepare for the season,” Brady said. “I have been noticing that every time I participate in Arctic Cats, I get better. My form gets better and I become faster. I started doing track in the 5th grade when I did Fairway Elementary track and field. I have done it ever since. I like the awards and I like to win. I also like to see myself get better everyday at something I work so hard for.”

Chili cooked, Stephen Beeler (12) grabs a drink during the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chili cook-off, Nov. 13. “I liked being together with people that I know and some people that I didn’t. It brought all sorts of people together,” Beeler said. “My youth pastor Elliot Vorgis came to speak with us, and it was fun getting to hang out with him. It was special having Elliot here because I have known him for a while and we have gotten close over the years. I have a deeper connection with him. It was cool bringing someone from my life outside of school into school. It got to show my school friends my church pastor. FCA allows me to connect with other Christians and Catholics in the school. Sometimes I don’t even know who they are until they come to FCA. It is cool getting to know them. Whenever I am walking the halls and going to class, I see them and know we have something in common."

Halloween approaching, Rebecca Sacco (10) paints her papier-mâché alien during Art Club after school, Oct. 30. “My papier-mâché balloon turned out weird,” Sacco said. “Halloween was the day after, so the alien fit the theme. The best thing about Art Club is being able to hang out with my friends and create weird things together. After a long day, art is just a way to just relieve stress. It is a great way to be creative.”

Districts underway, Sydney Dennis, shortstop, bunts the ball to get on base during varsity softball’s game at Marquette, Oct. 13. “It was pretty devastating losing,” Dennis said. “I am glad we put up seven runs against Annah Junge, she is the best pitcher in the state. We just need to work on our defense in the coming years. It was sad to see our seniors go on our last game because we built relationships through the season. I was proud of my team, especially the new freshmen coming in. They did so well this season. We just gelled together as a team. From tryouts to districts, we built those bonds and you can see that on the field with how we communicate.” The Wildcats lost, 17 to 7.

Old canvas her medium, Evangeline Young (11) draws during art club after school, Sept. 18. “This was my first meeting,” Young said. “I enjoyed it. I joined because my parents encouraged me to join something, and I was going to do theater because that is creative as well but a lot of time. Art club is something you can show up to if you feel like it. We were using old canvases that had painting on them that someone didn’t want. I enjoy art because it lets me be creative and expressive unlike other subjects.”

Super glue in his hand, Willem Smith (12) builds his bench and table combination during David Luecke’s sixth hour Woods 2 class, Aug. 31. “I like how in Woods 2 you get more freedom,” Smith said. “In Woods 1, our projects were scripted and you had to do them. In Woods 2, you make your own project and work on it at your own pace. You can do whatever you need to do. I decided to make a bench, but the back folds up to become a table. I decided to make something like that because I saw that my neighbor had one and it seemed practical. It is a good way to end my day. I have senior incentive so I get to go home right after. I like to work with my hands, so it is relaxing.”

Working on situations in a doubles match, Harper Lashley (10) returns the ball during girls tennis practice, Aug. 22. “I've been playing tennis since third grade,” Lashley said. “It is my ma in sport. I play basketball, too, but tennis is more of my thing. I am better at it and I focus on it. I like getting to meet new people from different schools and seeing how I play against other girls from other schools and how I fit in against other high school teams. I don’t have a preference for singles or doubles. I enjoy playing doubles because I like to play with people. I like the strategy of doubles. Singles are fun, though, because it is just me and I get to improve on my own game. Our coaches help us a lot. The other day we worked on situational things that will help us in a doubles match.”

Sibling duet, Leah and Daniel “Gus” Schumacher sing “Bop to the Top” from “High School Musical” at the OnStage! Spring show, April 7th. “We decided to do that song because Sharpay and Ryan were brother and sister in the movie when they sang it,” Gus said. “We wanted to do something special for Leah’s last show, something that will get everyone into our performance. The best part of the show was the last set watching the seniors dance. I liked the dance because every single senior put something into the dance so it was everyone's style mixed into one.”
