Creating cakes

Mixing ingredients together in Ms. Angie Wilke’s third hour Food and Nutrition 1 class, Jessica Haller (9), Allison Stewart (10), Rebekah Thebeau and Lauren Allman (9) make sure they carefully pour in milk before they begin blending, Nov. 15. Today they made cakes from scratch, as well as buttercream frosting. They each could choose a white, chocolate or yellow cake, and classic, chocolate or strawberry buttercream, Ms. Wilke said.

In Food and Nutrition 1, they do not only bake but also make entrees, breakfasts and snacks. “I like this class. It’s really fun,” Haller said. “You meet new people and experience different cooking techniques, like how to use the mixer and the oven.”
