This is Stageman's fifth semester on staff where she serves as the Editor-in-chief for the Eurekana Yearbook. Stageman enjoys music, art , photography and making people laugh. Snake in Adam and Eve being played, Lainey Seymour, Scapino performs with etc… during the spring production of a Company of Wayward Saints by George Herman, March 5. “I like to be able to entertain people and hearing others laugh,” Seymour said. “It is so different to be able to play someone else for a change. It is an amazing feeling. Nothing inspired me to starting acting. I just always wanted to do it ever since I was little. The idea of performing was so cool.”

In normal classes, you don’t have that much fun. In P.E . you can have fun and do things with your friends.”

Last dance together, Jensen Bee (12) dances with the 4 other seniors for Golden Line’s senior night, Feb. 8. “I have spent basically my whole high school dancing and connecting with these people. The fact that it is almost over and I only have a week left, I am just thinking ‘What am I going to do now?’,” Bee said. “When Golden Line is over, it sinks in that high school is almost over. One of the best things about senior night is when the juniors make posters for us. It is their way to say thank you to us. But also, the dance we do was special. The song we danced to was ‘Someone to You,’ by BANNERS. It described how even if all 5 of us seniors aren’t friends outside of school, we are still super close. The last dance with them was so special.”

Up by 12, Matthew Edwards, wing, looks for a teammate to pass to during the boys varsity basketball game at Parkway South, Jan. 18. “During the first half we played decent, but during the second half, we really picked it up,” Edwards said. “We outplayed them. I typically play every position, but this game I focused on wing. I like playing wing because I am most comfortable there. I can be in the flow of the game. I started playing basketball in the fourth grade for fun, but in middle school I became for serious about it. I continue to play because I am not that good at any other sport. I love watching basketball and playing the game.” The Wildcats won, 59 to 45.

Working on her strategies, Bryanna Brown (9) works on her Chromebook during Rebecca Stevenson’s sixth hour 9 Literature and Strategies class, Jan. 10. “Taking a class like this is super laid-back,” Brown said. “We don’t do too much work and everyone in here is my friend. Having a laid-back class to come to everyday is a nice break. It keeps my stress level down. I have only been in here seven days, but it is already my favorite class.”

Trees forming, Emma Agoncillo (10) paints her landscape for the Eco Art Show during Jessica Esfahani’s sixth hour Painting 2 class, Dec. 6. “ I am only using a knife and some brushes for the whole painting, which is a challenge,” Agoncillo said. “Painting is a stress reliever. Mixing the paint is also satisfying for me. I like to see how the colors mix and turn into something else.”

Carrying the ball down the field, Ronin Brown, running back, attempts to gain yards during the JV football game against Marquette, Oct. 15. “We started out a little too confident,” Brown said. “We weren’t ready to play them. We struggled a little in the first half. That created a big hole we dug ourselves in. We should have come out more prepared. I like to hit people and move down the field. It is fun and relieves stress. Football helps me to release all those frustrations that I deal with through the day. It helps me to be successful because I can just get it all out.” The Wildcats won, 42 to 7.

Project almost finished, Bailey Walka (11) adds details to her coil pot after school for Kristina Welch’s sixth hour ceramics class, Oct. 9. “I took ceramics because I needed another art credit and ceramics interested me more than any other art class,” Walka said. “I don’t like to draw and it more 3D than that. It is hands on. I like how you can be creative and make the projects your own. Art is a creative outlet because I can incorporate my faith into it. I can put things that are important to me into my artwork.”

Labor day weekend underway, Nate Koenig, Blake Rief, Vianney (12), Joshua Stolz, Chase Baker, Jonathan Dorner, Brigham Zaun, Austin Kiefer and Cole Crowder (12) spell “America” across their chest as they cheer in the Catpound during the varsity football game against Timberland, Aug. 31. “I like being the Catpound leader,” Baker, Catpound leader, said. “You experience a tremendous amount of energy as a leader, more than any in years past. It is exciting to have everyone listen to you as you lead the chants and have such a big response from all the kids in the Catpound. Both games have been exciting so far. They have come down to the final plays. This one was special because it was my birthday, so we decided to write ‘America’ on our chests. You aren’t really supposed to do that but I think it was worth it. The pictures turned out good and everyone was excited to see us leading in the front with this written across our chest. We decided to do America to celebrate Labor Day and it is also a big home game. Timberland was tough to beat and we knew people would come out. It gets more people involved with a simple theme.” The Wildcats won after Jhalon Asher-Sanders, running back/defensive back, scored the game winning touchdown and put the score at 20-13.

Touchdown scored with 14 seconds left, Lindsey Lawrence (11) and the rest of the varsity cheer squad celebrate the Wildcats victory against Fort Zumwalt West, Aug. 24. “When the team won, we all started jumping up and down because we got to witness this insane touchdown,” Lawrence said. “It was extremely awesome. We were all were proud that they pulled through. Being on cheer, I don’t get to sit in the Catpound, but being able to look up and see all my friends getting excited for the games makes me that much more excited to be there.” The Wildcats won, 24-20 after Tyler Kennedy, quarterback, passed to Avery Taggart, tight end, for a last minute touchdown.

Frisbee project underway, Drennen Walgreen (11) watches Gavin Sloan (10) sign “dog” during Julie Montgomerys sixth hour American Sign Language 2 class, Aug. 23. The frisbee project allows student to pretend they are walking in a park but need to communicate what they want with someone who is deaf. “I originally took Sign Language because I thought it would be easier than a foreign language class. I thought it would be more fun,” Sloan said. “It actually can be complex. I continued to Sign Language 2 because it is fun and a good break in the day. I plan on using it if I talk to someone deaf. I would know how to communicate with them.”

Schormann plays April in “Ambience Pizza” by Adam Szymkowicz directed by Caitlin Helterbrand (12). “I have never acted before,” Schormann said. “It is exciting to be on the stage. I have been in theatre for three years. My teacher [Susie Allmendinger] always told us to take from the character but add our own self to them. It helps me become April but not forgetting me. April is socially awkward, and I can relate to that. I just put on this vibe of becoming April and perform.”

I didn’t expect it. I thought I had a small chance, probably 33 percent. It was a bit of a shock. On the actually Prom, I had a fever and felt sick. I didn’t get to stay long, but I still had fun.”

Ready to throw, Ethan Larson looks for a teammate to pass to during the water polo game at Lafayette, March 26. I like just being able to do an after-school competitive sport with my friends, Larson said. I also enjoy the work that comes with trying to become a better player. I didnt mean to join the water polo team. I just came to the tryouts as a joke and ended up liking the sport. The Wildcats lost, 4-15.

Act one being performed, Sidney Bruhl (Dennis Brock) and Myra Bruhl (Shilee Hesman) perform “Deathtrap” at the etc… dress rehearsal, Feb.27. “I enjoyed working with this certain cast and seeing how our talents and gifts can work together to make this show,” Hessman said. “I loved learning the fight choreography and scaring the audience.The best part of being part of the cast is being able to make this play come to life. I loved working with this cast and just laughing with them all the time. My favorite part of performing is the very last moment. The applause overwhelms you and makes you feel so empowered and accomplished. It is like all your hard work paid off.” As understudies, Brock and Jaxson Burgess, (who played Clifford Anderson) performed in a complete dress rehearsal in case the intense fight scenes resulted in injury to the Will Crane and Erik Gospodarski who played Sidney Bruhl and Anderson, respectively.
