This is Todd’s second year on Eurekana staff. Todd serves as the assistant production editor for the Eurekana 2018.  Word that describes her: different. Conversation she wants to have the world: “People are so quick to make assumptions prior to actually knowing the person. And I wish there was a way we wouldn’t allow these judgments to effect relationships with one another.” Todd is involved with FCA, HOSA, SWAT, and E!Crew, and plays softball as well. She also enjoys going to youth group, drawing, writing, kickboxing, and binge-watching Netflix. Cans collected, Mackenzie Goode (12) marks boxes while StuCo tallies contributions, Nov. 7. “I like the fact that all the cans are going to families in Eureka and that I can do something to help someone I don’t know but who needs it,” Goode said. “It is important to give back because it shows you care about them and you're thinking about everyone. It gives you a good feeling when you help other people.” The donations brought in by students and faculty go directly to families in the Rockwood community through the Got Your Backpack program as well as five local food pantries.

Laptop on his legs, Benjamin Wiseman (9) analyzes the Lincoln-Douglas court case during speech and debate’s after school meeting, Sept. 25. “I thought speech and debate would be interesting,” Wiseman said. “I am in ALARP (Advanced Language and Research/Presentation), so I wanted to include more of speech related things into my life. I think public speaking is an important skill. Also, it is useful to convey a concept clearly so you can persuade people to your point of view. We haven’t gotten too far in speech and debate yet, but the best part has been being able to analyze the case and choosing values that are important to us.”

Pitch coming at her, Emi Myers, third base, gets ready to swing during the JV softball game against Northwest, Sept. 5. “The best thing about softball is playing with my teammates,” Myers said. “You are able to make friends in a good way and when you see them at school you can connect with them through the sport. I knew two girls going into tryouts. All of the other girls were new to me. Pretty much everyone in my classes didn’t go to Wildwood Middle with me, but I would see a softball teammate and then I would have that familiar face. It is nice. I have been playing softball since I was seven. I kept with it because I like the sense of teamwork and having something bigger than yourself. It is a fun sport. My favorite part of the game against Northwest would be how whenever we would get a nice hit, the whole team would be excited for you. It was a really nice feeling after you score. Although mercy ruling is fun because it shows how good your team is, it can be boring because it ends so quick.” The Wildcats won in mercy rule, 16-1.

Knight moved, Allison Abernathie (11) participates in chess club after school, Aug. 29. “I have always enjoyed playing chess,” Abernathie said. “Chess is just fun. Chess is a puzzle, but at the same time it is reacting to the other person. There is planning involved, but at the same time, your plan can fall to ruins and you're stuck looking at the board thinking, ‘What should I do next?’ I don’t remember when I learned, but I have always enjoyed playing. Being involved in chess club allowed me to know more people at school.”

Mercy rule ahead of them, Mitchell Davis, catcher, scores a run during the varsity baseball game against Northwest, April 10. “I love that baseball is such a team sport,” Davis said. “I love being able to just go out there and play the game. This year, we are a lot closer than in years past. Because we have that unity, we are able to communicate well and work together better. The players are some of my closest friends.” The Wildcats won, 11-3. The Wildcats have only lost 1 game of 12 so far this season.

Teacher of the year announced, Walt and Gary Baumstark Jr., winner, poses with Gary Sr. and Eli Baumstark at the ceremony to honor the title, Feb. 26. “I was very humbled and honored to receive such an honor,” Baumstark said. “To be recognized by my peers and so many teachers that I have long respected and looked up to-- that they would see fit to honor me--it is one of the greatest accomplishments of my professional career. Having my family around me was a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting them to come. Apparently they had known about it for about a week but kept it from me. Sharing that recognition was nice. My classes we're all great. Everyone was super excited. I even had students who are not currently my students coming by my class and congratulating me.”

The football games are more exciting because of the crowd there is larger, but these games are okay, too.”

We have great chemistry, and we know how to play together. Being friends with them outside of just this sport keeps my head right. I know I am following good people.” The Wildcats won, 74-34.

I love the challenge to make me better. Also, it is fun switching from football to basketball because all my football friends play basketball, too.” The Wildcats won, 67-55.

Jordan Bee, Stephanie Lubinski, and Elle Baker (12) hit a toe touch at Golden Line’s halftime performance at the varsity football game against Lindbergh, Nov. 3. “When the band walks off the field it's kind of like our stage,” Lubinski said. “The lights make the crowd and all my surrounds blurry, and I can feel the energy off of my teammates. The anticipation before the music starts builds up, surrounding us. When we start dancing, I can feel our energy off of everyone. I enjoy the feeling of dancing as large and strong as I can. When I do a kick or a trick and the crowd cheers, it pushes me to stretch my legs farther, hit my moves stronger and smile bigger. Overall, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after I dance because of how hard my teammates and I worked to construct an intricate dance.”

Back in the swing, Adele Marrale,, first base, hits the ball past first scoring a run at the JV softball game against Mehlville, Sept 25. “Mondays are usually hard for us as a team coming back from the weekend,” Marrale said. “It took us an inning or two to get back into playing, but--once we did--we all played really well as a team and ended up mercy ruling them.” The game was mercy ruled in the third inning. The Wildcats won, 15-0.
