Dark skies loom over the Manchester fire station, 9/29.

Local

Know: Firefighter and paramedic Sean McMullin of the West County EMS and Fire Protection District died on duty, Sept. 24.

Inform: McMullin, who spent 14 years with the department, died at station 2 on Manchester Rd around 1pm. When asked about the details his fellow firefighters gave no further information.

Care: A visitation for Sean is set up for Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm at Stygar Mid Rivers Funeral Home and Crematory, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville. A fundraising website has been set up to support his family.

 

National

Know: The Miami Marlins retired the number 16 of the late Jose Fernandez and wore his number in his honor, Sept. 26.

Inform: Marlins Pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed when his boat hit a jetty and flipped in the early hours of Sunday Sept. 25. the two other passengers, Eddy Rivero and Emilio Macias, died in the crash as well. Fernandez was 24 years old.

Care: Fernandez as a baseball player was an exciting player to watch. He played with such passion that I have never seen in a baseball player. Players in St. Louis have passion for the sport but Fernandez brought something to the sport that people even in and around Eureka don’t play with.

 

International

Know: At least 250,000 Syrian refugees are reportedly trapped in Aleppo facing Russian and Syria bombs. More than 200 civilians have been killed in the past week.

Inform: Syrian refugees have been fleeing and coming to the US and 1,100 refugees have been relocated to St. Louis. Volunteers at the International Institute of St. Louis have been helping refugees find jobs.

Care: Refugees could be around you when you go to the grocery store or a restaurant.  When you order your food the person serving you may be Syrian who is seeking refuge in the United States.
