Opinions: Hindsight: The ugly in our world

There is no such thing as being too careful

A man was shot and killed in a Florida movie theatre, Jan. 13.

Why? For texting his daughter during the movie previews. The man was killed by a retired police officer, according to CNN.com.

Situations like these make me terrified of our world. And I am not the only one who is scared.

I can’t walk more than two miles away from my home without my mom throwing a fit because she doesn’t want anything bad to happen to me, and I completely understand that. I don’t blame her for being over protective.

I live right behind QT, but when I want to walk up there and get a drink, I never want to go by myself. Why? Because I’m too scared. I always take someone with me when I go. There is no such thing as being too careful.

I feel like trusting people is some kind of mistake. I always lock my door when I leave the house because my next door neighbor could be the one to break into my house and steal all of my things, and it would never be expected.

I feel like every year, crimes in the world get worse and worse. All I ever hear about on the news is how someone got murdered or a store got robbed or there was a school shooting.

With all of these terrible things happening all of the time, it’s hard to trust anyone. There should be some positive news and events.

So instead of trusting my neighbor and leaving my front door unlocked, I’ll lock it. That way I’m saved from losing my valuable TVs, watches, jewelry, etc. and more importantly, my sense of security.

There are a lot of good people in the world. Our world is also full of kidnappers, rapists, pedophiles and murderers. Even the ones who we trust: our mothers, fathers and law enforcement can be the same people to show us the ugly in the world.
