Opinions: Hindsight: Money on my mind
Payday is every other week. I work 10 to 15 hours each week.
However, I am always broke.
And what’s funny (not really, it’s not funny at all to be honest) about that statement is that I receive decent paychecks.
But.
I. Spend. All. Of. My. Money.
It’s as if I grab a handful of ones and flush them down the toilet along with my hopes and dreams.
My money is spent on the stupidest stuff.
I spend it on fast food, clothes, things for my rabbit, hair dye, nail polish, gas and jewelry.
Last week I spent nearly $40.00 on toys and treats for my rabbit.
Yeah, I know, I have no life.
Oh also, I spent $30.00 on McDonald’s, Jimmy Johns, Culvers and Steak N’ Shake just last week alone.
Saving my money is nearly impossible for me.
It seems like every time I obtain a good amount of cash, I waste it on things that I don’t need.
What my mindset should be:
- My mom can cook, so that solves the fast food spending.
- It’s still winter, so there’s no need to spend money on spring/summer clothes (I do anyway). Oh, that’s a cute shirt… sike. Not for $25.00 it’s not.
- And as for my rapid spending on my bunny rabbit… well, there’s really no explanation for that. I just like to spoil her.
What is hilarious about my spending problem is that I’m usually the friend who encourages other friends to save their money.
Obviously, I need to take my own advice.
Not everything I see is so great that I need to spend my money on it.
I need to take a second and think, do I really need this.
95% of the time, the answer will probably be no.
The first step to solving a problem is realizing you have a problem. And I have (finally).
I’m going to do my best not to throw my money away like I’m some type of billionaire.
I wish I was.
Instead of buying those cute pair of earrings for $15.00, I’ll keep that money and save up for something I actually need. In my case, I need a camera.
But the only way I’ll be able to buy one is if I quit my bad habit.
I can do it. I know I can. Prayers appreciated though. Seriously.
As of right now, I am taking an oath to keep my money and save it for the time when I may actually need it.
