Seniors win, again

The junior women took on the senior women in one of the most anticipated things about Homecoming Week, the Powderpuff Game, Oct. 3.

The seniors struck first with a receiving touchdown by Mia Fiore just three and-a-half minutes into the game.

The seniors then jumped out to a 14-0 lead with 11 minutes to go in the first half when they added another touchdown to further distance themselves from the juniors.

The second scoring drive by the seniors was set up by a goal-line stand. The juniors took the ball down to the seniors one yard-line and could not convert their four chances on the goal-line in the first half.

At half time the lighter side of the battle occurred when the Golden Guys, Eureka’s take of a male Golden Line, took the field with their high-energy performance.

“I don’t know how guys twerking wouldn’t fire a team up,” Audrey Tomlinson (11) said.

Just minutes after half time, seemingly sparked by the Golden Guys, the juniors got on the board with a rushing touchdown by Mikayla Colenburg.

With just under 13 minutes left, the juniors committed the first turnover of the game on an interception of a deep throw over the middle of the field by the juniors.

With 8:23 left in the game, the seniors took a 21-7 lead on another touchdown rush around the edge of the offensive line.

The seniors triumphed over the juniors 21-7 with 3 touchdowns and a takeaway.

The event raised over $3,500 for the Renaissance program and Got Your Backpack project who were the real winners in the end.

“We all wanted to go out there and win as seniors,” Samantha Zweifel (12) said. “It was really fun to go out and play with my friends.”
