Thanksgiving is a time where families bring joy and warmth to the table. It creates images of turkey, pumpkin pie and family gatherings for many people. Beyond the traditional feast many families have their own unique celebrations and ways to express gratitude.
Thanksgiving is all about setting aside our busy lives to be with each other. Creating memories that will last a lifetime is one of the best parts of spending time with family. There’s something very special about sharing laughter, stories and family jokes with one another.

Amanda Heine, 11, and her family display each other’s traits and personalities through a showcase.
“My grandma came up with this idea and all the kids do a really fun talent show” Heine said.
Food brings people together whether its the process of making it or getting to enjoy it with the people you love. Thanksgiving food especially brings a comforting aroma to the dinner table. Some have generational recipes that have been passed down for years or some experiment with new recipes that can tend to be hit or miss.
Maya Van Dyke, 11, has found her niche in the kitchen and became the designated dessert chef.
“It started in elementary school when I made macaroons for my family and they were obsessed, so I make dessert every year,” Van Dyke said.
Even though thanksgiving day is the true holiday, it’s just the calm before the storm. Many also look forward to the days following; black Friday, small business Saturday and cyber Monday. Families are determined to hunt
for the best deals possible by waking up extra early, preparing for the long lines, and intense stores year after year.
Carter Kling, 12, enjoys the excitement around black Friday shopping.
“My Dad and I go tackle every single store nearby and just get a bunch of stuff,” Kling said.

Besides all the food, shopping, and celebrations Thanksgiving is also a time to reflect on the blessings in life. Whether it’s the simple act of telling family they’re appreciated or giving back to the community by donating to food pantries, volunteering at soup kitchens or visiting local shelters its important to bring joy into people’s lives.
Landon Martin, 11, acknowledges that thanksgiving is a great opportunity to cherish his loved ones.
“It’s a time where you get to be around family,” Martin said. “We finally get to show each other what we’re grateful for.”
