After being closed for months, Hidden Valley Ski Resort finally opened up to the citizens of Eureka on Dec. 13, 2025, causing rejoicing within the community.
Things at the resort are going to look a little different this season as Hidden Valley has undergone new ownership and conditions haven’t been necessarily favorable for proper skiing, which has been a complaint for the students that often go to Hidden Valley.

“I think it’s a little more icier, but that’s probably because it hasn’t been the most ideal weather for snow,” Zoe Fluchel, 11, said, “The reason why it’s annoying is because when it’s icy, it’s harder to have more control when you’re skiing. If you’re trying to go down a slope, you kind of just slide down, you don’t get to maneuver as easily, it’s a lot easier to get hurt and I bet that’s why a lot of people are upset.”

While conditions haven’t been favorable for proper skiing, the community of skiers and snowboarders at Hidden Valley are flourishing, and willing to help new faces at the slopes.
“It’s a great community. People are really welcoming. There’s always going to be people who aren’t kind, but usually if you have struggles, they’ll come up to you and help you out,” Tyler Sullivan, 11, said.
Gavin Lang, 11, an employee at Hidden Valley, is one of many who put forth effort to maintain the resort and make sure everything is up and running.
“My role there is that I set skis, and then I also do snowboards. So I give people their skis, I set them and then I do the same thing for snowboards,” Lang said.

A lot of work goes into the resort before it opens to the public, days of blowing snow, lots of cleaning and housekeeping, and many other factors that the normal guest might not know how much work goes into it.
“All the cleaning and the organization of everything, all the different size skis and snowboards we have. There’s a lot of work that goes into that,” Lang said.
Another complaint with Hidden Valley is the pricing.Guests that frequent the resort have highlighted the jump in price from last season
“It’s annoying because it’s gotten so expensive, and they used to have different stuff to give you a free season, like a pass and different stuff like that, and I just don’t think that’s a thing anymore which is just annoying,” Fluchel said.
A local attraction opening it’s doors again can lead to a place for people to get away, where students or people in general who participate in these activities can take a break from the stress of school or life in general to go hit the slopes, either by themselves or with a group of friends.
