This is Dixon's fifth semester on staff where she serves as Editor-in-chief of the Eurekana Yearbook. Dixon enjoys photography, shopping and watching movies. She is involved in SADD and E!Crew at Eureka. One word to describe her; confident. A conversation she wants to have with the world, "I would want to know how everyone is bettering the world they live in." Last competition of her career, Sarah Emery (12) dances with Golden Line at the St. Charles Competition, Feb. 23. “It is eye opening leaving Golden Line,” Emery said. “You spend so much time with your teammates and that is what I am going to miss most. I don’t know how much I will miss being busy all the time and having no free time, but I will miss dancing. I am not continuing my career and that is hard.” Emery will study physical therapy at the University of Kansas in the fall.

Final set over, the girls varsity volleyball team celebrates after their victory over Francis Howell Central at Pattonville, making them sectionals champions. The team is now moving onto the state games for the first time in school history. “We havent made it past districts since 1996,” Avery Crowder, setter said. “ It was super exciting. Eureka volleyball has never been to state. It is super exciting to be a part of the team that is making it to state for the first time in history. I think we definitely deserve it. We have all worked so hard and I am so proud of all of my teammates. I know we are going to do great at state. The games this weekend can go anyway. All four teams that are going, [Willard, St. Theresa, Lafayette and Eureka] are good. They are all going to be great games. Lafayette is our biggest competitor. We have always had that fight with them. We lost to them earlier in the season on a close game, but we have been working on our blocks and making sure we can shut down their hitters so we can win.” They will play at The Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau in the Final Four game on Friday, Nov. 1. If the Wildcats win, they will move on to play the State Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Going in for a dive, Lucas Langevin, outside hitter, falls to the floor for a save during the boys varsity volleyball game against Vianney, March 27. “The sport in general is fun,” Langevin said. “I like to go out there with people I consider my friends. It is a good way to relieve stress and anger. We have a lot of laughs. We can talk and talk trash, which is funny. I started playing volleyball when I was six because my parents have been playing for over 25 years and wanted to me to join in. I looked up to them, and, when I was 10, I started playing club. I have just grown a love for the sport. The team at EHS now has almost all played together for four years. We have grown close. The atmosphere is explosive. Everyone is giving it everything they have, and we are all together.” The Wildcats lost, 0-2.

We were there to let them have fun. It was a chance for them to put on shoulder pads and play since most of them cant. FNL allowed students to spread kindness with each other.

Storming the field, John Sabo,varsity football, leads Parker Reed (11) alongside Drew Mantzke, varsity football, for the Friday Night Lights football game, Sept. 29. ““I enjoyed turning the tables and becoming fans of these kids,” Sabo said. “We gave them their own great, fun experience that we have every Friday. Most of these kids wouldn’t get that opportunity. They don’t get to suit up and wear pads like we do. My buddy [Parker Reed, was completely afraid of sports and had never played anything. I took him out and told him that we were just going to try it. When it was over he didn’t want to leave and now has plans to watch football with his dad on Sunday. It was cool, just a great experience. I am super happy for him and being there to change his life is something that doesn’t happen every day.”

History in the making, Kurtis Winegardner (11) does a series of 550 LB squats to eventually become one of the now six kids to make the 1200 LB club in EHS’s history during the football teams “Night of Champions” where everyone runs drills and lifts weights, May 17. “I didn’t feel anything because I couldn’t feel my body. I was in a lot of pain probably, I don’t remember it that well,” Winegardner said. “It felt great to have my teammates cheering me on because I knew they had my back. In the end I was proud of myself.”

Tyler Kennedy, JV quarterback, scrambles out of the pocket during the game against Pattonville, Sept. 6. “At first we were being lazy and well on most of the run plays we weren’t able to find the holes,” Kennedy said. “The line they stepped up big and started opening up some huge holes towards the end of the game and that’s why we won: because the line was working their butts off.” The Wildcats won, 24-14.
